ENCELADUS
Enceladus is an icy moon of the planet Saturn, very interesting for its internal oceans, geysers and detected organic molecules. This moon has fascinated the author and in 2009 he composed a work for the complete Solar System and a specific piece for that moon. In this 2020 he decided to re-make the music and make it the main theme of the new album.
1) The work opens with a complex and long theme, called Explora, where the music changes in time, harmonies and melodic content. The Yamaha DX7 opens the album, giving way to a series of sequences that link the digital with the analog. Although it is the most extensive piece, it is also the most energetic and active, creating a dynamic flow through different emotional states.
2) Principia, the second piece presents a nostalgic touch, melodically led by certain tones of digital synthesizers of the mid 80s, such as the Roland D50 and the Yamaha DX7 a slow walk, marked by the bass of the solid Korg Monopoly. The title refers to the Cosmological Principle, which postulates that the large-scale Universe would be homogeneous and isotropic.
3) Enceladus, dedicated to the icy and mysterious moon of Planet Saturn, of epic character, establishes a counterpoint between the roaring bass of the Yamaha DX7 and the choruses, in a strange scale that mixes Greek modes. It runs fast and towards the end is crowned with an analog lead from the Yamaha CS15 in a climax of digital brilliance.
4) Pioneer, dedicated to the first interplanetary missions, advances on a resonant bass from the Yamaha CS15 and an asymmetrical drum kit and presents two leads, the first, from the same open and heroic CS15 and the second from the Yamaha SY77, opaque, closed and full of diminished scales that give it an almost jazzy touch in the middle of a space context.
5) Nyx, the Greek Goddess of the Night, based on an intricate rhythm created with sequences on the Yamaha SY77 that unfolds its possibilities of becoming metallic tones typical of FM synthesis and white and percussive noises from sampled waves.
6) Klanglust, "desire for sound" in Germanic language. Starts with the classic sound of the DX7 EPiano, a timbre that historically defines this legendary instrument, creating a repeating sequence that is often surrounded by changing string arrangements, passing melodies, and incidental noises. The piece concludes with an experimental section that was originally much longer, where the Korg Monopoly arpeggiators are unleashed freely on strange sounds created with the Yamaha SY77 and DX7.
7) Eris, one of the most voluminous and extremely distant dwarf planets, twice the distance from Pluto. This is a reverberant ambient made with the Yamaha TX81z, where the incredible sonic possibilities of FM synthesis can be appreciated.
Enceladus es una luna helada del Planeta Saturno, muy interesante por sus océanos internos, geysers y detectadas moléculas orgánicas. Esta luna ha fascinado al autor y en 2009 el compuso una obra para el Sistema Solar completo y una pieza específica para esa luna. En este 2020 el decidió re hacer la música y que constituya el tema principal del nuevo álbum.
1) La obra abre con un complejo y largo tema, llamado Explora, donde la música va cambiando de tiempo, armonías y contenido melódico. El Yamaha DX7 abre el álbum, dando paso a una serie de secuencias que enlazan lo digital con lo analógico. Si bien es la pieza más extensa, es también la más enérgica y activa, creando un dinámico fluir por diferentes estados emocionales.
2) Principia, la segunda pieza presenta un toque nostálgico, liderado melódicamente por ciertos timbres de sintetizadores digitales de mediados de los 80s, como el Roland D50 y el Yamaha DX7 un andar lento, marcado por los graves del sólido Korg Monopoly. El título hace referencia al Principio Cosmológico, que postula que el Universo a gran escala seria homogéneo e isótropo.
3) Enceladus, dedicado a la helada y misteriosa luna del Planeta Saturno, de carácter épico, establece un contrapunto entre el bajo crepitante del Yamaha DX7 y los coros, en una extraña escala que mezcla modos griegos. Se desenvuelve veloz y hacia el final es coronado con un lead analógico del Yamaha CS15 en un climax de brillos digitales.
4) Pioneer, dedicado a las primeras misiones interplanetarias, avanza sobre un bajo resonante del Yamaha CS15 y una batería asimétrica y presenta dos leads, el primero, del mismo CS15 abierto y heroico y el segundo del Yamaha SY77, opaco, cerrado y colmado de disminuidos que le dan un toque casi jazzero en medio de un contexto espacial.
5) Nyx, la Diosa Griega de la Noche, basado en un intrincado ritmo creado con secuencias en el Yamaha SY77 que despliega sus posibilidades de convertirse en metálicos timbres propios de la síntesis FM y ruidos blancos y percusivos provenientes de ondas sampleadas.
6) Klanglust, “deseo de sonido” en lengua germana. Parte del clásico sonido del EPiano del DX7, timbre que define históricamente a este legendario instrumento, creándoselas una secuencia repetitiva que es numerosas veces rodeada por cambiantes arreglos de cuerdas, melodías pasajeras y ruidos incidentales. La pieza concluye con una sección experimental que originalmente fue mucho más larga, donde los arpegiadores del Korg Monopoly se desatan libremente sobre extraños sonidos creados con el Yamaha SY77 y el DX7.
7) Eris, uno de los planetas enanos más voluminoso y extremadamente lejano, al doble de distancia que Plutón. Se trata de un reverberante ambient realizado con el Yamaha TX81z, donde se pueden apreciar las increíbles posibilidades sonoras de la síntesis FM.
